“There is agreement between partners that the shelter at Woodstock Place was too close to nearby homes and there was sometimes an excessive amount of noise from young people gathered there. It has been dismantled by Mid Sussex District Council who will consider a suitable location to relocate it to.

“We have consulted with residents and our local authority partners about this issue. The measures which have been put in place seek to maintain an appropriate balance between the right of the residents to the peaceful enjoyment of their homes and the importance of maintaining the provision of healthy outdoor activities for local young people.”

Cllr Ruth de Mierre (Con, Bentswood) said several residents raised fears over the hut was encouraging antisocial behaviour at a police panel meeting last year.

She added: “There’s a balance to be struck that other people might like to sit in the sunshine in what is rather a nice green area.”
