A pub in Horsham had to be evacuated after a smell of burning was reported yesterday evening (Saturday August 29).
Emergency services attended the Sussex Barn in North Heath Lane at around 7pm, a spokesperson for Sussex Police said.
The premises was evacuated and closed while firefighters searched the building, but reopened shortly afterwards.
Two customers who suffer from asthma were treated at the scene.
The incident happened while the Horsham district branch of Age UK held a charity barbecue, karaoke and raffle at the pub.
Monica von Steiger, assistant activities co-ordinator for dementia clubs in West Sussex, said the group was told pepper spray had been used in a toilet.
Despite the brief closure, the charity day raised £540 for Age UK Horsham District.
