A leading figure in the HS2 project is set to join West Sussex’s Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) as its new chief executive in January.
Jonathan Sharrock will take charge of Coast to Capital LEP, which stretches from Croydon to Brighton and Hove and covers West Sussex and Lewes, and will be responsible for helping to transform the area’s business and economic performance through the region’s Growth Deal.
He spent the last three years developing the HS2 project, and was also responsible for overseeing Government transport interests for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. He also has experience in the aviation industry.
Mr Sharrock said: “I am very much looking forward to joining Coast to Capital and helping to deliver the next phase of economic growth and regeneration across the region. I look forward to working in partnership with business and local government and to ensuring that the LEP helps to drive future success in the Coast to Capital area.”
He will report to chairman Tim Wates, who said: “Following a rigorous recruitment process, I am delighted that Jonathan has agreed to join Coast to Capital.
“He impressed us with his grasp of the challenges and opportunities facing our region and I am confident the LEP will continue to flourish under his leadership.”
Ron Crank, who is stepping down as chief executive of Coast to Capital, added: “When I retire at the end of the year, I will do so in the knowledge that Coast to Capital will be in very capable hands going forward. Jonathan’s experience of partnership working across the public and private sectors will be an important asset to Coast to Capital.”
