GALA CONCERT at Danny House on 3rd October at 7.30pm. This is in aid of the Dame Vera Lynn Trust for Children with Cerebral Palsy. The concert is given by the Plaegan Piano Trio, Helen Sills, violin, Michael Nebe, cello and Alan Brown, piano. The programme will be composed of works by Haydn, Rachmaninov, martinu and Arensky. CAFÉ CHURCH at the Methodist Church, 42 Cuckfield Road on Sunday 4th October 10.30 am to 11.30 am. There is coffee and croissants at 10.30 am followed by lively worship, songs and a Bible message for today’s people, an activity for the younger ones and more coffee and croissants at the end. Go along and enjoy a great Sunday morning.
G&T@3 also at the Methodist Church, 42 Cuckfield Road on Sunday 4th October at 3.00 pm. A half-hour traditional service in a relaxed setting followed by afternoon tea and a time to chat. All are warmly invited and will be made very welcome.
HURST AFTERNOON CLUB at its meeting on Tuesday 6th October at 2.15pm in the Village Centre will have a talk on Eating for Health. This will cover the most common digestive complaints, looking at the potential causes and how a change in eating habits can reduce or resolve them. The speaker is Belle Amatt, Lecturer in Naturopathic Nuitrition and Nuitrition Consultant at clinics in Hurst and Hove. All are welcome.
AFTERNOON TEA DANCE on Tuesday 6th October at the Scout HQ Trinity Road 2 - 4 p.m. Go along, join in and enjoy the music of “Debonair Dancing” (David Farrant). You do not have to dance, you can just enjoy the music and afternoon tea, to raise funds for Family Support Work. VILLAGE CINEMA on Thursday 8th October at 8pm screens Force Majeur. This is a strikingly original and often very funny film from Sweden about a couple on holiday with their two children, at a luxury resort in the French Alps. As they sit on the terrace enjoying the sun and the breathtaking scenery things take an unexpected turn, and a subtle and deadpan drama unfolds. Tickets from the website.

BOOK AHEAD FOR WEST GALLERY CONCERT at Holy Trinity Church on 17th October at 7.30pm has a fun Flanders and Swann evening provided by Nick and Simon Hancock. Some may remember their ‘At the Drop of a Hat’ shows in the 1950s and 1960s, and others may have heard their songs, like The Hippopotamus Song, with its refrain of mud, mud, glorious mud or The Gas-Man Cometh. REMINDER that from 5th October the plastic carrier bags given out by supermarkets in particular but also other places will no longer be free. So suggestions to gear up and be ready include keeping shopping bags in the boot of the car, having a good bag to carry, with folding ones inside if necessary and keeping one folded in a handbag, for unplanned purchases. Although small shops are exempt some have decided to take part to join the campaign against waste and environmental plastic pollution.
URGENT APPEAL FOR A BAND. Hurstpierpoint Remembrance Parade no longer has their NTC band to play for the parade, which is taking place this year on Sunday 8th November. This is short notice but are you or do you know of a band from somewhere fairly local that is able and willing to come along for this event?
