Hurst Festival: ended on Sunday 30 September after two wonderful weeks of entertainment and activity. The Committee welcomes comment and also suggestions for next year as planning starts almost immediately. So do get in touch with your ideas: [email protected] or via the website.

Macmillan Coffee mornings:

The Annual Coffee Morning on Friday 28th September in Sayers Common Community Hall made £547 and was very well attended. This was followed by a “Brunch” also for Macmillan on Sunday morning also In the Sayers Common Community Hall which was a fantastic social event taking our total up to £933. Thanks to all who attended these events especially the wonderful helpers and Our Chefs!

And, at Hurstpierpoint Bowls Club, on 21 September, more than £1000 was raised when over 100 people attended a coffee morning for the same good cause. The organisers thank everyone who provided raffle prizes, and those who made donations. Cancer affects us all in some way or another, so these wonderful events are so important.

Tuesday 9 October, 7.45 pm, Village Centre: Hurstpierpoint Horticultural Society welcomes Jim Stockwell, Chair of the Sussex Gardens Trust, who will give an illustrated talk on the work of the Trust.

Wednesday 10 October, 2.30 pm 9 Park Close: Mothers’ Union meeting. Bring along a favourite mug and share your story with other people. £2 for non-members.

Thursday 11 October, 8 pm: A Fantastic Woman (15) won the Oscar for the best film not in the English Language at the last Academy Awards. Thrilling, mysterious, moving.

Saturday 20 October, 6 pm. West Gallery, Holy Trinity Church: Classical Folk – Sylvia Akagi (voice and flute),Andrew Wickens (violin), Peter Golden (guitar) with their classical interpretations of both folk, and classical music, and stories behind their music. Tickets £5, pay on the door. Doors open 5.30 pm.

Friday 26 October, 8 pm: The Old Dark House (PG), received 5-star reviews everywhere for this gloriously restored classic which invented the ‘creepy house film genre’ at the same time as lampooning. Both creepy and very funny in turn.

Sunday 28 October, 3 pm: The Olive Tree (12A), a deceptively simple, soulful film filled with gentleness and charm which has two stars, the feisty Spanish actress and a vast, gnarled, thousand-year-old olive tree.

Saturday 13 October, 10 am, Village Centre: Coffee morning in aid of the RNLI.

Saturday 13 October, 8.30 – 11.30 am, Trinity Road Health Centre: Flu jab clinic. Walk in, adults only.

Monday 15 October, from 1 pm, Village Centre: Hurst Hassocks & Ditchling U3A. Guests welcome with entrance fee.
