Invite for new members

Brighton Festival Chorus is inviting new members to join them an open rehearsal on October 4.

They’ll be rehearsing the Verdi Requiem for a performance in Brighton in November.

“So if you want to join in, just come along,” said spokeswoman Elaine Fear. “If you enjoy the experience, there’ll be an opportunity to book a simple audition for a later date.

“The rehearsal starts at 7.15pm in the Chichester Lecture Theatre at the University of Sussex at Falmer. The music is provided and you’ll receive a warm welcome.”

Elaine added: “The Chorus performs a wide variety of music in venues all over the UK and in Europe with well-known orchestras and conductors. This year highlights of a busy and varied schedule have been Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast with the Brighton Philharmonic, in the Brighton Festival, Jonathan Dove’s, There Was A Child with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and concluded their season with the BBC Proms performance of local composer Havergal Brian’s massive Gothic Symphony in the Royal Albert Hall.

“Other performances have included their ever-popular Christmas Concert, Messiah and a sell-out fundraising concert, Eternal Light in St Bartholomew’s Church. Other singing has included recordings for Alfie Boe and Popstar to Opera Star winner, Joe McElderry and the Chorus has just recorded the Christmas editions of the BBC’s Big Sing in the Royal Albert Hall.

“Coming up this season, amongst others are concerts with Alfie Boe, the ‘Queen Symphony’ with other music by Queen and, of course, in the Brighton Festival. Further details of the Chorus can be found on the website, www.bfc.org.uk.”
