Jobs lost as travel company moves

About 60 people will lose their jobs at the All Leisure Group travel firm when the company closes its Burgess Hill office in about a month.

The firm is saving running costs by moving its head office to the larger office at Market Harborough, Leicestershire, of travel firm Page and Moy, which it took over last May.

The staff of about 70 at Lynnem House, Victoria Way, Burgess Hill, were given notice of closure this week and most will not move.

The firm includes tour operators Voyages of Discovery, Swan Hellenic, Hebridean Island Cruises and Discover Egypt. Chairman Roger Allard told the Mid Sussex Times on Tuesday: “In these days companies have to consolidate to get economies of scale. It’s a difficult time.”

A member of staff told the Middy: “I think it will be good for the people of Market Harborough but it will be bad news for the people at Burgess Hill.”
