Kew Gardens will celebrate Fascination of Plants Day with talks and tours on Monday May 18,
Royal Botanic Gardens Kew’s Dr Hugh Pritchard, Dr Wolfgang Stuppy, and Dr Peter Toorop will give a talk about the beauty and importance of rainforest tree seeds, as well as guided tours of the Wellcome Trust Millennium Building, including the Millennium Seed Bank and seed labs.
Tours will be limited to 30 people at a time and will start at 1.15pm and 3.15pm from the public display area in the centre of the Welcome Trust Millennium Building.
The talk, limited to 90 people, will take place at 2.15pm in the seminar room.
The event is open to members of the public who have already entered the gardens at Wakehurst. Places will be offered on a first come first served basis.
Kew’s Scientists are working with partners in Brazil on a project on the seeds of Amazonian trees.
The knowledge generated will support strategies for the sustainable use of on rainforest trees that are of local economic importance, and contribute to a developing bio-economy.
