Large unattended bonfire tackled by firefighters in Burgess Hill

Firefighters tackled a large unattended bonfire in Burgess Hill last night (Tuesday June 24).

The call came at around 9.20pm to go to open ground off Freeks Lane at the junction of Maple Drive.

The bonfire consisted of commercial waste producing quantities of black smoke.

Due to access problems, Land Rovers were used and a local tractor helped to break up the fire.

The area was damped down and turned over and firefighters left the area shortly before midnight
