Learning disability charity Mencap is recruiting in the Haywards Heath area.
The charity supports people with a learning disabilities, their families and carers.
Mandy Connors, a support worker in Haywards Heath for 18 years who has worked at Mencap for five years, described her work.
She said: “In the past people with learning disabilities have been segregated, causing prejudice beliefs about disability. I hope to challenge some views and encourage people to be included.”
“Along with the day to day tasks, we have some fantastic plans to look forward to over the summer. At the moment we are both getting fit so that we can enter the Walk for Life together. We may go along to a couple of theatre shows over the next few months. Who knows.”
“I’m not going to sugar coat it being a support worker, it can be very challenging at times with trying to understand non verbal communication or behaviour issues, however those challenging times melt away when you see that cheesiest grin beaming from her face.”
