Man killed by train in Wivelsfield named as David Pape

The man who was killed by a train in Wivelsfield has been named as David Pape.

The 48-year-old from Burgess Hill was pronounced dead at the scene on September 24.

A BTP spokesman described the incident: “Our officers were called to Wivelsfield station shortly before 6.30pm on Wednesday, 24 September, after reports a person had been struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended. However, a man was pronounced dead at the scene. His death is not being treated as suspicious.

“British Transport Police is trying to identify the man and inform his family.

“We will prepare a file for the coroner.”

The inquest into his death opened on October 1 but was adjourned.

The incident caused major disruption to train services on the Brighton to London line.
