MBE awarded to teacher for services to education and sport

Having gained a Liverpool University Honours Degree in physical education with mathematics, Pete took up his first teaching post in Salisbury, Wiltshire, in 1981. Whilst in the city he was voted Sports Personality of the Year for service to schools’ football.

He gained a full FA coaching licence in 1985 and was one of the youngest coaches in the history of the FA to gain the qualification.

Promotion brought him to Warden Park, Cuckfield, in 1985 where he has served for over 30 years taking on the posts of Head of Department, Head of House, Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and recently Head of School.

He managed the England Schoolboy Under 18 National Football team 2004-2006 to unprecedented success and was named National Schools’ Coach of the Year in 2006. In receiving the award it recognised his ‘thousands of hours of voluntary service for the good of young people both on and off the sports fields for almost four decades.’

Pete said he was delighted and humbled by the recognition and was celebrating it with his family.
