Mission to help youth in theatre

Anyone4Theatre? celebrates its fifth anniversary with a production of Seussical The Musical at the Pavilion Theatre, Worthing this April.

As part of its mission to create performance opportunities for youngsters, it will be in action on April 20 and 21 with 2.30pm and 7.30pm shows.

Anyone4Theatre?’ was founded in 2006 by Amelia Regnante.

As group spokeswoman Kathy Minchell explains: “It is a non-profit making youth theatre project in Worthing, committed to providing teenagers with the opportunity to take part in shows and musicals, whatever their talents, be they performing, costume, make-up, sound, lighting, props or just generally helping out!

“In an age where young people often attract negative comments A4T? is focused on encouraging youngsters to get active, become involved in something positive, take on new challenges, achieve a target, gain confidence, take on responsibilities, learn to work together in a team and to socialise in a safe and healthy environment as well as learn new skills not only for The Arts but also for life.

“A4T? is not about producing the best singer, dancer or actor; it’s about equipping young people for their future; allowing them to realise their own potential and to have confidence in themselves to achieve their dreams whatever it takes; whatever the dream may be.”

Kathy added: “A major principle behind A4T? is that it is fee-free. All the members actively participate in raising the money needed to stage the productions as well as meet the running costs for rehearsal halls, music, equipment etc. What makes the company special is that the productions are run completely by the young company members, under the direction of Amelia, from lighting to choreography and costume design! Everything from rehearsals to the show itself is produced by young people.”

The company is aimed at the 12-18 age bracket and the junior company, founded in 2008, includes ages three-11.

“It was clear that the large number of younger children eager to join the company also needed an outlet to express their creativity and be encouraged to pursue their talents. And so in 2009 the Junior Company celebrated its premiere production of Disney’s Aladdin Jr at the Pavilion Theatre.”

Tickets for Seussical The Musical, based on the popular Dr Seuss children’s books, are available on 01903 206206.
