And even those with routine appointments can expect to be seen within three weeks.

It’s all thanks to a new £1 million hospital revamp including 15 new treatment rooms at the hospital’s musculoskeletal department.

The department treats people with a range of muscle, bone and joint conditions, and also those with arthritis, back pain and sports injuries.

Natalie Blunt, Sussex MSK Parnership’s deputy managing director said: “The improvements mean that patients can see a wider range of specialists and be diagnosed and treated more quickly and closer to home.”

The revamped department - including refurbishments to a hydroptherapy pool, gym and waiting areas - was officially opened by Horsham District Council chairman Christian Mitchell on Monday.

He said the new facilities offered “a nicer environment for patients who will have the benefit of a larger team able to offer personalised care for them.”

And he gave thanks to the hospital’s League of Friends for supporting the project.

He added: “The department has been designed from a patient’s perspective. Dementia-friendly colours and signage have been used, with icons and pictures as well as easy to read words, and facilities are fully accessible for people with mobility problems.”

The refurbishment was co-ordinated by NHS Property Services and includes upgrades to other areas of the hospital.

A new rheumatology infusion suite is also set to open later this year which will mean that local people will no longer need to travel to East Surrey Hospital in Redhill for treatment.
