Twineham school, in Church Lane, was inspected by Dr Rosemary Addison in January and her findings were published earlier this month.

In her report, Dr Addison praised the work carried out by headteacher Scott Reece and his leadership team to keep up the good quality of education seen at the previous inspection in 2012.

Mr Reece was seen to have won the confidence of parents and the wider community since taking over as head in September, while he and his team had “high aspirations” for the school.

Dr Addison said: “Pupils are polite. They talk happily and confidently about their school, and were keen to tell me about the wide range of extra-curricular activities available to them.”

When it came to the performance of the pupils, 2016’s figures published by the Department for Education, showed children made average progress in reading, writing and maths between the end of Key Stage 1 and the end of Key Stage 2.

Dr Addison reported youngsters made “good progress” from the early years, but found boys did not make as much headway as girls.

She acknowledged school leaders were aware of this issue – which they had highlighted as “a point for action” – and that changes had already been made to address it.

She said: “Consequently, some boys are reaching high levels of attainment in reading, but this is not always the case and there is more work to be done.”

Twineham’s chair of governors, the Rev Stephen MacCarthy, thanked staff and fellow governors “for the way in which they work together”, adding: “Thanks also go to all pupils and parents for the way they support the school and respond to the opportunities they receive there.”
