Tree house update: In February, I wrote about the Woodland Walk that we are developing within the grounds of Chestnut Tree House.

We have been very fortunate that this project has cost nothing to the charity as everything has been funded by grants or gifts in kind.

The walkway will be accessible by wheelchair which is fantastic for our families and their children with life-shortening conditions.

Even more exciting is the addition of an amazing tree house being constructed for the Ideal Home Show in London, which will be donated to the children’s hospice during the summer, after it has also been exhibited at the Royal Horticultural Show at Hampton Court.

When we started this project and wrote our wish list, we could never have imagined how it would take off. All the materials being used are of excellent quality and the whole project has a minimum 25-year life cycle. The outcome we wanted to achieve for our visiting families is to enable their children, many of whom have complex needs, to experience nature close up, something which ordinarily would be inaccessible to them. In addition to special zones to stimulate sensory experiences, the tree house will be insulated and completely sound-proofed. When closed, the children can view the woodland through floor to ceiling windows or go out onto a viewing platform.

As you can imagine, we are all looking forward to the grand opening later in the year.
