The information would be used to help analyse people whose brains have been injured as a result of accident, stroke or illness. The assessment will take around an hour to complete and each participant will be paid £10 for their time.

BIRT is looking for anyone aged 18 and over to participate who has not experienced any form of brain injury or stroke. The brain injury charity is currently testing in central Burgess Hill.

BIRT is updating and extending a set of tests used in the assessment of memory: the BIRT Memory and Information Processing Battery (BMIPB). BIRT experts want to gather data on ‘normal’ memory functions in order to provide a benchmark by which to assess the extent of someone’s brain injury.

l What is the BMIPB?

The BMIPB is a collection of tests used by Clinical Psychologists to measure the effects of damage to the brain on memory and similar abilities. It can help treating clinicians plan individual rehabilitation programmes and track a person’s recovery. It is also useful in conditions such as Alzheimer’s to check how rapidly the condition is progressing and to guide plans for help and support.

If you are interested in taking part, please go to www.birt.co.uk/memory, email: [email protected] or call 01444 237 294.
