LETTER: Important to vote in Neighbourhood Plan

Lindfield, Walstead & Scaynes Hill residents should by now have received their polling cards for the referendum on the Lindfield & Lindfield Rural Neighbourhood Plan, which is taking place on Thursday 28th January.

As far as we are aware, our Neighbourhood Plan is the only one in Mid Sussex that is not allocating any specific housing development sites – as this was the view expressed to us time and time again by our residents during the years that it has taken to create the Plan. They told us that they had enough of big developments eating into the countryside around our villages. In order to help counter any legal challenges to the further progress of our Plan and also to ensure that the Plan is fully adopted, we need a very high turnout and a massive ‘YES’ vote.

Neighbourhood Plans were introduced by the Government to provide a means for local residents to have overriding control of development within their community. This referendum therefore provides for the first time, an opportunity for our community to vote for the way they want their neighbourhood to develop in the years up to 2031 – not the planners and certainly not the developers who have been doing so in Mid Sussex recently.

Details of the referendum have been published on Mid Sussex District Council’s web site and there are links from both Lindfield & Lindfield Rural Parish Councils’ websites, on various notice boards, in the Lindfield Life and leaflets are in the process of being delivered to all residents. In support of the referendum, two pop-in sessions are being held on Saturday 16 January from 10am to noon in Scaynes Hill’s Millennium Centre and in Lindfield’s King Edward Hall from 2pm to 4pm, in order to provide information about the Plan. Members of the Steering Group will be around to answer any questions.

Please make sure that your friends, neighbours, family members etc. are fully aware of the importance of them voting on the 28th January and that the efforts of our fellow parish councillors from both Lindfield & Lindfield Rural Parish Councils, with the support of four Focus Groups composed of a large number of local residents, have not been in vain. We hope that the rest of the community agree with the proposals within the Plan and will provide a massive YES vote on the 28th January.
