Letter: Don’t confuse chestnuts with conkers

There is a good crop of sweet chestnuts this year, which are now falling to the ground in the woods of Sussex.

It is not too late to collect a few, cook and freeze for your Christmas chestnut stuffing - if you can wait that long.

Don’t confuse them with conkers, which are also plentiful and should NOT be eaten.

The woods are also bursting with exotic fungi, thanks to the rain and mild weather.

Deadly poisonous ones are remarkably similar to some edible species so eating any wild fungi may be a game of Russian roulette, which is not worth playing.

You can safer buy cultivated mushrooms from your local greengrocer.
