It will be a very different and fun event creating much publicity. Filming of 1,800 Hurstpierpoint residents, i.e. 30% of the inhabitants of the village, representing their organisations will start in March and take place over a period of 3 months. Carolyn and Alison already run a very successful nursery in West Sussex, called Noah’s Ark and Jigsaw is their second venture. They have great plans for the place whilst maintaining the exceptionally high standards that Jigsaw has already achieved. Good luck ladies and welcome to Scaynes Hill.

Power Cut Compensation Payments are arriving thick and fast at the moment although those who applied by phone seem to be waiting the longest. I know that those of us around the Church Road area are receiving £75. The people who were off the longest are all being quoted different amounts. Apparently they have received more claims than expected, with the figure at over 9,000 so far. Please keep me up to date so that we can make sure nobody loses out. Thank you.

Vacancy Administrator and Bookings Secretary A vacancy has arisen at Scaynes Hill Village Centre for an Administrator / Bookings Secretary reporting to the Centre’s Managing Trustees. This is an important role within the Village Centre as the individual concerned is the first point of contact for all potential hirers, contractors, employees and Trustees. It is anticipated that this post will involve approximately 7 hours work per week and will be based primarily at home with ad hoc visits to the Village Centre. If you have good IT and interpersonal skills and would like further information or a full job description, please contact on Steve Minter on 01444 831786 or email: [email protected].

Village Photo Quiz How well do you know Scaynes Hill? Well, even if you have lived here a long time there may be a few small quirks that have passed you by. To cheer you up at this generally dark and cold time of year the village website will be publishing in the first week of February, a photo quiz to see if you can identify some little landmarks in and around the village. Check it out at http://scayneshill.webplus.net/.

W.I Scaynes Hill WI welcomes any ladies from Scaynes Hill or surrounding areas to go along and join them. They meet on the second Wednesday afternoon of each month from 2.30pm-5.00 pm in the Millennium Centre. The group is very sociable and a great way to meet other people in the village. On the third Wednesday of each month they arrange a lunch or tea meeting at a local restaurant or café for any members who wish to go along. One of their lunches in 2013 was at High Down Prison at the ‘Clink Restaurant’ - the food was wonderful - all of which was prepared and served by prisoners who are training to work in the hospitality industry. The Clink is a charity that works to give prisoners training and job prospects on completing their sentence. On the fourth Wednesday of each month, from 2.30pm to 5pm they hold a craft group in the Millennium Centre. Sometimes they learn a new skill; sometimes they take along their own projects to work on whilst chatting! New members are always welcome so please feel free to go along and join in.

FILM LATER IN THE DAY The next Wivelsfield Films evening presentation will be Sunday 9th March is to be GRAVITY - 12A from 7.30pm. Sandra Bullock and George Clooney star in Gravity, a heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space. Gravity is now nominated for 10 Oscars including Best Film, 11 Bafta’s including best film and winner of the Global Globe -- Best Director. The film was directed by Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men). Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalski completely alone - tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth… and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space. Slices of homemade cakes, Magnum ice creams and drinks served before the film -- doors open at 7.00pm -- and during the interval. Tickets £5.50 on the door, in advance from Wivelsfield Post Office & General Stores and The Cock Inn or online at wivelsfieldfilms.wordpress.com or indeed via our Facebook page.

Fortunately a replacement has been found and the Youth Group will continue to be a popular activity for our young people. However, this crisis has highlighted the fact that we still need volunteer helpers to relieve the pressure on our three regular volunteers - just an hour and half a month would help - no qualifications required. Daybreak Family Group Conference works with the extended family and friends to make decisions and plans for resolving problems around a child, young person or vulnerable adult to ensure that child’s safety and wellbeing. They are holding a training course for new volunteers who are interested in being an advocate or an assistant co-ordinator at a family group conference. The dates of the training are 7th/8th March. This is a great way to learn more about conflict management and to make a real difference to the life of a child or a vulnerable adult.
