Passengers and crew evacuated after fire on Gatwick-bound flight

A fire broke out on board a 777-200 British Airways aircraft scheduled to take-of from McCarran International Airport, in Las Vegas..

The airport said the fire broke out at around 4.15am (11.20pm GMT) and seven passengers were treated for minor injuries.

157 passengers along with three pilots and 10 cabin crew were evacuated and a ‘small number’ were taken to hospital, a British Airways spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added: “The aircraft, a 777-200, experienced a technical issue as it was preparing for take-off from McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.

“Our crew evacuated the aircraft safely and the fire was quickly extinguished by the emergency services at the airport.

“All customers have been provided with hotel accommodation, and our colleagues are helping them with anything further they require.
