Pensioner punched in village assault


A pensioner was punched in the back of the head in an assault in Hassocks, police have said.

Police were called after a 70-year-old man, who lives in Hassocks, was assaulted in the village at around 4.35pm on Wednesday (December 2).

A police spokesman said the man had earlier been involved in verbal altercation with another man at a bus stop in Burgess Hill.

The 70 year old then caught the Number 40 bus and got off at a stop in Hassocks. He was punched in the back of the head as he crossed Pavilion Close and fell to the ground, police said.

The victim suffered a minor hand injury and was left shaken.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked contact police by emailing or call 101 quoting reference 1038 of 02/12.
