Joan said: “The staff in there are lovely. They have such good deals in there. You get to know people when they have been there a long time. It will never be the same.

“There are a lot of older people down here who use it.

“It is such a busy little shop and it all boils down to greed.

“We are not having anything here for nine months – that’s nearly a year.

“They don’t care about the customers or staff.

“They aren’t concerned about the people who live here.”

Joan said shoppers will be forced to go into Haywards Heath to do their shopping, which will be a struggle for people who can’t drive.

A One Stop spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, we will be closing our store in Walnut Park, Haywards Heath. We are consulting with all colleagues affected and will be offering them support in finding alternative roles at other stores where possible.

“We’d like to thank the local community who we will continue to serve when the store re-opens as a Tesco Express later this year.”
