This Saturday (July 11), more than 40 households will take part in the fundraising event – where visitors can find the perfect ‘upcycled’ item, browse for bargains and spot hidden treasures.

Alison Stevenson and Mat Record, who have coordinated the village event, said: “After three months of lockdown, what could be better than a yard sale, and the chance to raise funds to help people who are struggling at this time.”

A map of who is hosting yard sales can be found outside Balcombe Victory Hall in Stockcroft Road from 9.30am on the day or via social media.

Each stall is a private sale but they will be donating a portion of proceeds to both charities.

The yard sale follows the highly successful plant sale held in May which raised more than £900 for Crawley Open House, which together with The Easter team, formed The Crawley Foodbank Partnership.

There will be a number of safety measures in place on Saturday to ensure social distancing. People who are taking part are advised to display a sign or two reminding buyers of the fact.

A spokesman added: “Try and set up a queuing system. If you have one, set out a road cone or a chair or something similar to mark the start of the distanced queue or a distance from the table.

“Set out your items for sale in as long a line as you can to allow multiple buyers to browse at once. Make sure there is space around your sale to allow people to distance.”
