A scaffold cage was built around the blue Volkswagen amid a parking dispute in the Beech Hill area of the town.

A trailer had been cemented into the ground next to the vehicle before the cage was built, according to Inspector Darren Taylor of Mid Sussex Police.

He added: “I know this job throws up many different things but I have never seen anything like it before.”
