Nine tandems and two triplets (tandems with an extra saddle) could be seen on Sunday May 15 raising money for 4SIGHT, West Sussex Association for the Blind.

The stokers (rear seat riders) were all blind or partially sighted. One of the triplets was ridden by three members of American Express staff, Brighton Branch and the other was ridden by Mark Silver (pilot - front rider), Sujan Wickremaratchi, Haywards Heath Town Mayor, and Nik Demetriades, chief executive of 4SIGHT.

Anne Tomlinson, 4SIGHT tandem ride co-ordinator, said: “On behalf of 4SIGHT I would like to thank all those who gave up their time to take part in the ride, our first aiders and stewards. I would particularly like to thank all those people who generously supported our riders by sponsoring them.

“I must also thank The Thatched Inn, Hassocks who allowed us to use the pub’s car park at the beginning and end of the event. The Red Lion, Lindfield, The Cowdray Arms, Balcombe and The Eight Bells Bolney who hosted much needed ‘comfort breaks’.

“A particular thank you should also go to Mark Silver, Lawrence Wintergold and Kip McCollum who helped to organise the ride by sourcing tandems and pilots, acting as mechanics and providing and driving the support vehicle.”
