High winds on Friday caused the horse chestnut tree to plummet, blocking the road to traffic.

District councillor Samantha Smith told the Middy: “A resident asked for our help as we had a chainsaw and other residents were using hack saws.

“It took several hours to clear and two PCSO officers came to help and direct traffic.

“Tony Smith made light work with his chainsaw and also Jeremy and Charlie Amey from Garden Machinery also stopped to offer help.

“It was wonderful to see the community all come together to offer help to get the main road into the village open again.

“Every one who helped did a fantastic job as this is a very busy road.”
