Neighbourly Care offers support that a ‘good neighbour’ might offer – such as shopping, transport to a doctors or dentist appointment and minor household and DIY jobs.

But many of its current volunteers are in an ‘at risk’ category – therefore the need for younger volunteers right now is paramount.

Richard Cherry, chairman of Neighbourly Care, told the Middy: “Neighbourly Care is looking to help the local community at this time of the Covid-19 health crisis.

“The help it offers, such as shopping and befriending are having to be drastically modified to cope with the current situation.

“So that befriending, which normally would have entailed a home visit will now be a long telephone conversation and escorted shopping trips will be a ‘shop and drop’ style operation.

“If we can get younger volunteers it will help make the organisation work that much better. We need young blood. The time is very much right to get this message out.”
