Addison Taylor, 11, Casey Taylor, nine and Scarlett Taylor, four, of Langley Green, decided to raise cash for staff at the Crawley Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) after being inspired by Captain Tom Moore.

Mum Emma said: “They trained our chickens to complete an obstacle course set up in our back garden using items they found around the garden and house.

“They worked together to see what worked and made adjustments working out which chicken was the most confident to complete the course.”

She added that Hei-Hei the chicken put in an egg-cellent performance and was the only bird to complete the course.

Christy the chicken completed half of it before getting in a flap while Autumn was a ‘little bit scared’ and nearly chickened out.

The rescue chickens, which Emma said are spoilt by the family, completed a tightrope before going down a slide and leaping over a jump.

Emma added that her daughters and their feathered friends raised £170 which meant they could provide dinner cooked by local restaurant The Clubhouse.

She said her family collected the food and delivered it last Monday, May 4.

The leftover funds were used to send some fruit from Surrey and Sussex fresh fruit and veg who also provided a fruit box themselves, according to Emma.

She added: “The Crawley UTC is such a big and important department in our town, I’m sure you will find many households that have had at least one visit there, us included.

“This was our way of saying thank you and keeping it all close to home.”
