Hassocks school wins national STEM award

Downlands Community School was ‘thrilled’ to receive the STEM award at the Education Business Awards 2020. 
Paul Hirchfield and Emily Stokes from Randstead Education, who sponsored the event, presented the award to Mark Wignall, headteacher. The STEM award is awarded to the educational establishment that has excelled in the provision of a first class environment for teaching STEM subjects including, and entry is open to schools from all sectors.

Downlands is now in its second year as the Sussex SLP (Science Learning Partnership), providing science training for teachers and technicians across primary and secondary schools and at sixth form colleges.

This is done through networks, courses and conferences throughout Sussex. 

Downlands Community School have student STEM ambassadors who visit the local primary schools and its STEM club has won a number of competitions, including Outstanding STEM Club at the STEM Inspiration Awards 2019.
