Jack Cripps, 8, completed a 200 lap walk of his own garden, doubling his original target on Saturday February 6 to honour the memory of Captain Tom.

The Harland’s Primary pupil said: “I was sad when Captain Tom died, and I wanted to carry on his job walking around my own garden for charity”.

His mum Emma said how she set up a Just Giving page with plans for Jack to walk 100 laps of their garden raising £100 for Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals. In just a matter of days, Jack had raised over £1,000 and his family are overwhelmed at everyone’s support. On the day Jack decided to walk an extra 100 laps to thank everyone for the support they’ve shown him!

Emma said: “With Lockdown, there’s nothing much to be positive about, so it has really given him something to be proud of”.

His dad Sean added: “Jack has always been full of empathy, even when we’ve been on trips to London he has always wanted to give to the homeless, we’re so proud of him, especially as it was all his own idea.”

Jack has really enjoyed watching all the donations roll in on his Just Giving page and it has inspired him to do more charity work in the future.
