“A massive thank you to Orchards centre manager Nicola Bird for supporting the society throughout the pandemic and donating refreshments for this uplifting event.

“They were expertly served by Sally and the wonderful staff at the Bay Tree Café.

“A raffle was held at the end of the talk with an amazing cactus (donated by Tony & Suzanne) and Bay Tree Café vouchers (donated by Sally) on offer.

“This capped off a very enjoyable afternoon with friends and was a heart-warming sign of things to come in the future.”

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) affiliated society was established in 1891. Normally, it holds monthly talks on the third Thursday of the month between September and May, an annual trip to visit gardens throughout the South East, and three seasonal shows a year.

There are also plant sales, selling plants grown by members at meetings, shows and social events, as well as seed swaps between members.

The society has a summer community event coming up at the Orchards shopping centre on Saturday, June 26.

Sylvia said the society was ‘looking forward to something positive for all’.
