The Great British Spring Clean will see up to 600,000 people nationwide taking action to clean up streets, parks and beaches across the country to show they love where they live.

Last year, Haywards Heath Town Council organised and took part in several litter picks around the town, launched a postcode litter pick campaign to encourage local neighbours to meet and make new friends while gathering litter in their local area and installed new bins to combat the amount of litter dropped in Haywards Heath.

Councillor Sandy Ellis said: “We all play a huge part in keeping our town litter free and I have been delighted by the number of Haywards Heath residents, community groups and organisation that have come out in force to keep our parks and open spaces a happy and health place to live for our community and wildlife.

“We owe a massive debt to the hours of volunteering that has been given to good causes such as this and I do hope we can get as many of you involved in our Great British Spring Clean on Saturday, April 4 in Clair Park.

“We will be there from 11am and will provide litter pickers and bags and invite you all to join us at the Great British Spring Clean to keep our town clean for us all to enjoy.”

Allison Ogden-Newton, chief executive of Keep Britain Tidy, praised the town council’s efforts.

She said: “The overwhelming response to last year’s Great British Spring Clean showed that there are many hundreds of thousands of people out there who love where they live and are prepared to take action to make it better for themselves, their families and their communities.

“We are delighted that Haywards Heath Town Council is supporting this year’s campaign and would like to thank them for their support.

“Without councils across the country giving the campaign their backing, our volunteers would not be able to do the incredible job they do.”

In 2019 more than 500,000 Litter Heroes across the country collected more than 900,000 bags of rubbish.

The campaign, run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy will run from March 20 to April 13,
