Haywards Heath woman celebrates 60th birthday after being told she wouldn’t survive childhood
A Haywards Heath woman who doctors thought would not live past childhood welcomed a few friends to her home for the first time in nearly two years to celebrate her 60th birthday.
Gatherings for Lorraine Mercer’s big day were arranged at carefully spaced times at safe distances in her garden.
An Olympic torchbearer in 2012, Lorraine was awarded an MBE for her charitable works despite the prognosis after she was born with disabilities caused by thalidomide.
Lorraine, a lifelong Cliff Richard fan, hopes to meet him one day as a fellow torchbearer.
