Yesterday & Tomorrow, an event planned by the Haywards Heath Town Team, was a planned week to celebrate the town, its past, and to look forward to what the area is becoming.

The celebrations were set to start on Monday, September 7 with exhibitions on the town’s history, a sound and light show at St Wilfrid’s Church, and lectures from local people including author and university tutor, Colin Manton.

The annual Town Day was planned to round off the festivities on Saturday, September 12, and the week of activities was to be led by the town’s students.

Councillor Ruth de Mierre, chairman of Haywards Heath Town Team, said: “Yes, we are all devastated that our amazing Yesterday & Tomorrow to celebrate our town won’t be taking place in 2020 – especially as so very many people had worked so very hard to make this special.

“However, it’s only postponed and we’re determined to make it even better and more amazing in 2021 so watch this space!

“If it’s possible and these challenging times are behind us we would like to continue planning a celebration to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, however.

“So we’re all holding thumbs and awaiting better news soon.

“To all those who have so generously sponsored us or agreed to be with us on the day, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and only hope that you will stay with us until next year and be part of something even bigger and better.”
