In pictures: Empty streets in Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath amid coronavirus lockdown

Pictures taken by our photographer Steve Robards show streets in Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath completely deserted during coronavirus lockdown.

Not a person can be seen in sight in Church Walk, Burgess Hill, and the roundabout near McDonald’s – a known traffic hotspot - is completely clear. Haywards Heath town centre also looks like a ghost town. South Road, which is usually bustling with shoppers, looks eerily quiet – and The Orchards shopping centre is unoccupied. The UK was put under lockdown on Monday (Mar 23), with Prime Minister Boris Johnson outlining strict new measures to stop the spread of Covid-19. He ordered that people are now only to leave their homes for specific and essential reasons.
