Mid Sussex Council pledges to continue support for local businesses as lockdown eases

Support for local businesses will be maintained over the coming months by Mid Sussex District Council.

That’s the pledge from council leader Jonathan Ash-Edwards who spoke out after prime minister Boris Johnson yesterday outlined the country’s roadmap out of lockdown.

He said: “The district council will maintain its support for local businesses through the coming months to ensure Mid Sussex’s economy can recover and grants remain available for businesses adversely impacted by the restrictions.”

He said he welcomed the prime minister’s roadmap “which gives clarity on how lockdown restrictions will be eased in stages over the coming weeks and months. “I know people across Mid Sussex will be looking forward to again having more contact with family and friends and the wider reopening of shops, leisure centres and hospitality.

Covid-19 infection rates in Mid Sussex have fallen significantly as a result of the lockdown and it is crucial that this progress is maintained as lockdown eases and the vaccination programme continues.

“I would encourage everyone to continue to follow the rules and guidance as we emerge from lockdown.”
