Two lanes of the M25 north of Gatwick are currently closed because of a plank of wood across the carriageway.
Highways England says that anticlockwise lanes at Junctions 9 and 8 between Leatherhead and Reigate are affected.
Traffic officers are currently on the scene removing the debris.
The AA says that traffic is currently ‘coping well’. Said a spokesman: “Lanes one and two of four are part blocked by a plank of wood straddled over both lanes.
“Traffic is passing the wood easily in the other lanes but traffic maybe held to remove the plank.”
