The two adult cats were found by a man from Burgess Hill squashed into a picnic basket that had been left on the shingle.

He contacted Paws and Claws and took the basket and its contents to the charity’s base in Scaynes Hill.

Extra emergency pens were created for the new arrivals and after only a few days they both gave birth, one to three kittens and the other to four.

Staff have named the tortoiseshell mums Sybil and Selina (pictured).

The sibling kittens, which are mostly ginger and tortoiseshell, have been given the names Shelly, Sandy and Winkle and Candy, Sailor, Piers and Rocky.

Volunteers at Paws and Claws are eager to find homes for all the cats. Get in touch with the charity on 01444 457758 or via the Paws and Claws website.
