Jeff Myers, 74, said he was inspired to build the suit to help people to keep 2m apart and keep smiling.

Jeff, a semi-retired consultant from Storrington, added: “I made this thing which pointed out to people [if they’re too close] – if people come near me a little buzzer goes off.

“It worked 100 per cent. It was brilliant.”

He added that he considered sending the design, which was made using polystyrene and a glue gun, to president of the United States Donald Trump.

Jeff said his suit, which took about half an hour to make, brought joy to the village’s residents.

He added: “People were laughing and saying it’s totally brilliant.

“It was a bit like an octopus suit.

“I’m like Doc from Back To The Future.”
The suit was a ‘bit of light-hearted humour’ according to Jeff.
