Turning Tides said it ‘fears a crisis is looming’ as it prepares to look after record numbers of homeless people this winter and said it had seen a marked increase in the numbers of people needing their support.

Ruth Poyner, head of fundraising, said: “Christmas can really highlight the pain of what is missing from a person’s life – a secure place to live, family, food, safety, happiness.

“So we are determined that Christmas will not be cancelled. Caring is never cancelled and we want these men and women to know they are not alone.

“Outreach workers will be searching the streets and countryside to find people who need support.

People who are having to sleep rough will receive food, clothing and other essentials.

“Those housed in Turning Tides’ hostels will experience a full Christmas dinner.

“Crucially, Turning Tides’ frontline keyworkers will be on hand with emotional and practical support, all through December and beyond.

“Almost 90 per cent of the people we support are local – they are our neighbours.

“If we pull together we can ensure people thrive in our community.

“Any single donation can be the first step that changes someone’s life.”

Donations can be made at www.turning-tides.org.uk/christmas or by phoning 01903 680740.
