West Sussex County Council’s refugee resettlement team delivers local aspects of the UK’s commitment to resettle refugees affected by the conflict in Syria.

Volunteers are needed to provide a vital local link and a friendly face that refugee families can turn to as they resettle into a safer new life in West Sussex.

Burgess Hill Shed is creating a new community centre called The Kiln in The Martlets, Burgess Hill.

Volunteers are needed to help with renovating the existing premises, running a fundraising shop and coordinating events.

Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity, which supports children with cerebral palsy and motor-learning difficulties, is looking for volunteers to provide administrative and research help to the fundraising team, run social media platforms and help with general fundraising by manning stalls at events, coordinating collection boxes and bucket collecting.

Burgess Hill Repair Shop, which is open every second Saturday of the month, is looking for volunteers to give broken items a new lease of life.

It currently needs people who can repair ceramics, clocks, watches, and electrical items.
