White bluebell in Burgess Hill sent in by Middy reader

A woman from Burgess Hill has sent in a photo of a white bluebell.

Andrea Arogyaswamy said: “Having seen the piece in the Middy about a reader spotting an albino bluebell, I thought I’d share a photo I took of a white bluebell just south of Burgess Hill

“Having compared my image with the one in the paper, I am not convinced it is a true bluebell because the bells don’t hang down, like the wild British bluebell.

“I suspect they’re a variant of the Spanish bluebell, introduced by the Victorians and undermining our native variety.”
