The festival was opened by Caroline Nicholls, High Sheriff of West Sussex, at the United Reform Church, where a host of performers were entertaining an audience inside.

Co-founder Lynn Tulip said: “It was the most amazing festival, all of our indoor venues were full.

“There was a lovely flow of people with a big footfall, we think several thousand people came.”With more than 140 events over the three-day festival there was something for everyone.

The arrival of a seven foot ‘extreme cake’ from the so-called channel four TV program, baked by Michelle Wiebro was cut by Ms Tuplip and dished out to visitors.

Ms Tulip said the organisers triumphed over adversity when a road closure request was denied at the last minute.

Quick thinking from the team saw the stall traders, and performance tents relocate to the common.

A literary tent, street theatre, and performers put on plays, all free of charge with just two of the 140 events required their audience to pay for tickets.

Fresh food stalls, many of which boasted local produce lined the common.

Ms Tulip, a business woman from Lindfield, said: “I started organising this event nine years ago because I wanted to give something back to this great community.”

Co-founders Lynn Tulip and Hilary Knight are planning an even bigger festival for what will be their tenth anniversary of the festival next year.
