Pictures: 4Sight charity worker awarded medal

Dorothy Lazenby, a 4SIGHT volunteer, has been awarded the BEM by the Lord Lieutenant for West Sussex, Susan Pyper.

The medal was conferred at a meeting of the 4SIGHT Clayton and Hassocks Club.

“I would like to thank the volunteers and members of the clubs who nominated me,” said Dorothy.

“I am happy to accept it in the hope that it will make the work of 4SIGHT and the existence of the partially sighted clubs more widely known.

“I would like to emphasise that this is not a solo effort, it takes 17 drivers, helpers and cooks to keep the show on the road! Thank you all.”

Dorothy has been supporting people with sight loss for 24 years. She also helps at community events in Bolnore and with asylum seekers at Gatwick.

Chief executive of the charity Martin Pearson described Dorothy as a ‘stalwart’ for 4SIGHT in Mid Sussex.

He said: “Although she is in her 80s she is determined to continue to provide support to local people with visual impairment. She is a marvellous volunteer and much loved.”
