Chequer Mead Arts Centre, in East Grinstead, has submitted a planning application for the relocation of East Grinstead police station on behalf of Sussex Police.
The application, to Mid Sussex District Council, is for the relocation of East Grinstead police station to the conversion of the Wagg Studio in the arts centre to house a public contact point and neighbourhood policing base.
If approved, the new location will replace the existing provision in East Grinstead.
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “Across the county, Sussex Police is reviewing its working environment and buildings with the aims of maintaining and improving services to the public, increasing accessibility and availability to all communities it serves, whilst reducing costs.
“Having a public contact point and neighbourhood policing base within the Chequer Mead Arts Centre, means services will be easier to access. This is because police will be located in a more convenient position in the centre of the town where there is considerably more footfall; it also means working more closely with partners for a joined-up approach.”
