Mid Sussex planning officers are recommending approval of the outline scheme even though the land is outside the village’s built up area.

In the absence of an approved district plan, officers say the council’s lack of a five year housing land supply “weighs significantly in favour of granting permission”.

However, they acknowledge the development would “ultimately increase congestion within the village in areas already prone to congestion” at peak times.

Hurstpierpoint and Sayers Common Parish Council is against the proposal, which has received five letters of objection.

The application will be discussed at the District Planning Committee in the council chamber at Oaklands, Haywards Heath at 2pm today (Thursday, January 9)
