Nationally, the top three advice trends for Citizens Advice are the right to reside, immigration and citizenship, and that has been reflected in enquiries to Citizens Advice Centres across West Sussex.

Julie Martin, CaSSCA CEO, said: “We will be here to advise our clients whatever happens. We would remind everyone that the government has not passed any new laws on the right of EU nationals to reside in the UK, and it could be a long time before the rules change.

“The application for British citizenship is a costly process, and may be wholly unnecessary.

“We would advise our clients to think very carefully and seek advice before making any decision on the matter. We will be updating our advice as events unfold.

“There have been reports in the media of an increase in racial attacks and discrimination following the referendum. Citizens Advice is committed to equality, and we would encourage victims of such attacks to report them to the police.

“If you are the victim of discrimination, we are here to help you.”

Anyone who has been affected by the referendum result and would like advice can drop in at their local Citizens Advice Centre, submit an email enquiry at or call the advice helpline on 0344 477 1171.
