The 40-metre long and eight-metre high ball stop fence would be positioned along the northern boundary of the Haywards Heath Cricket Club pitch within the Heath Recreation Ground.

Last year Mid Sussex District Council gave permission for a 75-metre long fence in the same position, but an underground pipe was discovered meaning the plans had to be amended.

These were signed off by the council’s planning committee on Thursday November 12.

Last year tree works saw the removal of a row poplar trees along the northern boundary of the cricket pitch. Aa number of hornbeams have been recently planted on the bank to replace them.

Officers described how the fencing was to protect the homes in Park View along the northern boundary of the ground from cricket balls.
