At a meeting of the cabinet today (May 26), members agreed unanimously to use money from the capital programme to replace the prefabricated buildings currently used by children in Birchwood Grove Road.

With planning applications due to be submitted in November, the new college is scheduled to open by May 2023 - though many hope it will be sooner.

Campaigners have been battling for a new college for eight years.

A spokesman for the Complete Woodlands Meed campaign said: “[We] are very pleased with the decision to proceed and would like to thank the councillors for the unanimous decision to approve the funds.

“We will await more information on the plans and look forward to seeing the project progress.”

More to follow.
